PERSONALITY
CHARMING | EASY GOING| SADISTIC Charmer |
Above all things, Oliver is a charmer. Ever since he was a child, Oliver has been capable of talking just about anyone into doing what he wants as well as having a trademark allure about him that makes just about anyone feel a small soft spot for him. Oliver's charisma knows no bounds and the man can come across completely at one with the world, as if everything has worked perfectly for him in life and those he meets are but another step on his journey. He always has a little bit of time to say hello and always seemingly wants to enquire about the state of the other person. He seems to naturally understand how to drop people’s guards with A well placed touch here or there along with his gentlemanly British demeanor, making him ooze with charm and charisma.
Confident |
When the chips are down Oliver is never one to second guess his abilities. If things go wrong, he never ponders how things have gone astray but rather how he can fix them. As such, in life Oliver goes through life with an assured confidence of himself and of his abilities. Mostly this translates over to his actions in life meaning he is always sure of his decisions and always comes across genuine in his actions. At the same time this can also give Oliver a slight egotistical streak and those that get off on the wrong foot with him or don't fall to his charm can find him overly arrogant. He never apologizes for wrong doings unless he knows he was in the fault and even then this is few and far between.
Flirtacious |
Being a man of refined taste Oliver never fails to appreciate a pretty woman. With his confident swagger and charming nature, it is hard not to like the man either. Further down though the man has yet to find anyone he could commit to because of his immortality. He has outlived a few lovers and felt the pain associated with it. As a result of the pain that comes from outliving the people he loves, Oliver has grown to dislike love and commitment. Now he prefers to keep his women at arm’s length to stop himself from getting bogged down in emotional connection. That doesn't mean that he doesn't compliment and flirt his way through life – though.
Easy Going|
Oliver has been around all sorts of people over the centuries and has lived through several major cultural changes. As a result of all these experiences he has developed a rather nonchalant demeanor. He does not really take himself or other people seriously. The logic behind this is that he knows that almost everyone around him will die in a few years anyway, and he will continue to exist long after their corpses turn to dust. As a result of that mentality, he is incapable of caring about how other people perceive him. He also often encourages other people to stop caring about how he perceives them. He allows people to be themselves around him without judging them because he is unapologetically himself around people too. Sadly His nonchalant demeanor also allows him indulge in vices and reckless behavior due to growing numb over the years.
The Sadistic |
Of course with all enigmatic personalities comes down sides. For Oliver this is no different, after all he is a vampire. When riled into a frenzy a truer, darker fraction of Oliver can come to light. The man is a complete and utter sadist at heart. Even though he can turn the social situation to make it seem like he has the heart of an angel, nothing gives him more secret pleasure than seeing those he has no strong affiliation with suffer. Translated over to a fight, Oliver likes to make his opponent suffer and takes great gratification in making them die in humiliation. To some extent Oliver is able to play this off as a lighthearted foible, but underneath the man's charismatic mask is the soul of a cruel young man who doesn't mind throwing honor aside if it gets him the win.
HISTORY
Oliver’s story starts in England during the 18th century. His mother was a young and beautiful lady from a noble house. As with all high-born young ladies, many men competed for her attention, most did so out of love and adoration for her beauty, but others coveted her family’s wealth. For many years’ men had tried to gain her attention and had failed, until a dark, handsome, and mysterious stranger rode into town. The man was clearly not British, he was foreign, and he seemed to be very well-traveled. He managed to successfully court her thanks to his vast knowledge about the world, his vast collection of books and art from foreign lands, and the exciting stories he had accumulated from his travels.
This man was much more interesting than the men that had perused her for her entire life, so eventually she fell in love with him. As you would expect, Her family was strongly against a lady of her stature being involved with an unknown traveler, but she did not listen. She eventually became pregnant with the man’s child, but by the time a physician could confirm that she was pregnant the man she loved had disappeared and was never seen or heard from again. In the 18th century, it was extremely uncommon for noble women to have children out of wedlock. So due to these circumstances, Oliver was branded the black sheep of the Belmont family before he was even born.
After nine months, a healthy baby boy was born and was given the name Oliver Belmont. Although his grandfather didn’t particularly like the circumstances of Oliver’s birth, Oliver was still a Belmont and was given an education befitting the family name. Even though Oliver was given the same childhood as the rest of the children in the family, most of his family still favored his cousins over Oliver and he was often called the “Belmont Bastard” by most of his family members.
As he got older, he seemed to excel far more than his cousins in the art of writing. Oliver spent countless hours reading and practicing his writing and even began distributing short novels that he had written himself. His cousins on the other hand, were focused on entering the world of politics and business in order to maintain the family’s wealth. Eventually when Oliver and his cousins were in their early twenties, they were set up to marry people from other noble families in order to maintain the Belmont family’s political and social status. Oliver rebelled against the idea, which made the family dislike him even more. At the age of 23 Oliver eventually decided to leave home. He intended to travel the world and write books about his exploits.
His mother was the only member of his family to protest his idea of travelling the world, the rest of the family felt the Belmont family would be better off without the Belmont Bastard. His grandfather even gave him money to start him off on his travels, in hopes that he would not come back. So, while his cousins settled into comfortable marriages and jobs, Oliver set off to travel the world and write books about his travels. The first few years were quite difficult because he had spent most of his life in the sheltered walls of Belmont manor, but he adapted to the life of a traveler and in the process his knowledge of the world grew more than he had thought possible. Which provided great fuel for his book writing.
By the time he turned 25, Oliver’s books were starting to gain popularity, around about the time his books began to gain recognition, he met an American woman who had read a few of his books. The two of them got along effortlessly. After a few passionate flings, she turned him into a vampire against his will. His new state of existence made travelling significantly more difficult, but it didn’t stop him. Oliver continued traveling the world under the cover of night, and due to his newfound immortality he often had to write his books under different aliases, which he had to change after every few years to make it seem like his aliases had died.
Eventually Oliver had managed to travel the entire world several times over thanks to his extended lifespan. But constantly living on the run and hiding his true nature became tiresome. His books had gained him large amounts of wealth over the centuries, but he had no place to call home. He knew he could never return to England because everyone in his family had probably turned ito dust by now. When the supernatural beings in New Orleans were exposed to the public, Oliver figured moving there would allow him to live without having to hide what he truly is. So, he moved to New Orleans and became a resident. At the moment he is still new in town and lives off of the royalty checks from his books.
